It didn't start as a campaign. One of our agents — grateful for the family he'd found with us — got our logo tattooed on himself, even brokering the commercial lease for the tattoo parlor along the way. To honor it, we locked him in at our highest commission tier, indefinitely. Then others asked for the same — and 50+ got inked, many simply because they loved the place.
My move was to shine a light on it: I entered our story in Inman News' contest for the boldest real-estate marketing — and we won. Inman ran the article, the Drudge Report picked it up, and from there it went everywhere: ABC, CBS, Bloomberg and Business Insider, papers from Australia to Turkey, and the late-night desks. It was later named PR World's Viral Campaign of the Year, the earned media independently valued at $60 million.
